Nasrin Sotoudeh, an imprisoned Iranian lawyer and human rights activist has been sentenced to 33 years in Jail, her husband told IRNA, Iran’s state media on Tuesday.

Reza Khandan, husband of Sotoudeh said that after Sotoudeh was sentenced to 33 years in jail, she had 20 days to appeal the ruling but “in protest of the procedure of judgment she did not object,” so the sentence was automatically confirmed.

Arrested in 2018 and accused of promoting prostitution, Sotoudeh who has been defending anti-hijab protesters was sentenced to 33 years in jail and 148 lashes in early March.

Amnesty International called the trial and detainment of Nasrin Sotoudeh “grossly unfair.”

The European parliament and international human rights organizations supported Nasrin Sorudeh and asked the Iranian government for immediate release.
