French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has said that the Islamic Republic's violation of the ceasefire agreement prompted the United States to launch a new round of military strikes.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Barrot told French television channel TF1 on July 9 that, regarding the latest U.S. military operations against the Iranian regime: "It was Iran that violated both its commitments and international law by targeting ships sailing in Omani waters."

The French foreign minister stressed that Iran had violated last month's agreement with the United States.

At the same time, he called for restraint among the opposing sides, saying: "This kind of escalation must stop completely so that these vital negotiations can continue under the best possible conditions."

On July 9, the United States carried out attacks against Iranian regime positions for a second consecutive day. In response, the Islamic Republic launched retaliatory attacks at various locations across five countries.

Referring to the Iranian regime's recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the United States said the objective of its latest military strikes was to eliminate Iran's ability to threaten freedom of navigation through the strategic waterway.
