Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) urged Iranian president Hassan Rouhani to free lawyers who are imprisoned for their human right activities.

Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) consists of bar associations of 32 European countries in addition to eleven associate and observer members. It represents around a million European lawyers.

On Friday, CCBE addressed Rouhani in a letter regarding the imprisonment of human rights lawyers in Iran and called for their immediate releases.

CCBE expressed its concerns over the spread of the coronavirus in the Iranian prisons and infection of many prisoners especially inside Tehran’s Evin Prison.

Iranian lawyers Nasrin Sotoudeh, Abdolfattah Soltani, Mohammad Najafi, and Amirsalar Davoudi were specifically mentioned in the letter.

The four lawyers won the 2019 human rights award from the CCBE. They are imprisoned for their activities as human rights lawyers.
