According to a report by Iran’s ISNA news agency, the head of the country’s Atomic Energy Organization told lawmakers on Sunday that Tehran will revive its activities in Arak heavy water nuclear reactor.

Ali Akbar Salehi has reportedly discussed the issue and announced the plan to a number of Iranian lawmakers, who are members of “independent” fraction, according to ISNA report.

The agency cited Mehrdad Lahouti, one of the lawmakers who attended the Sunday meeting. Lahouti has confirmed that the decision has been made and that the nuclear activities will be restarted.

According to Lahouti, Salehi emphasized on the importance of restarting nuclear activities for Iran and explained that the country has no other choice but to keep progressing its nuclear energy program.

Tehran has previously warned the global powers that it will reduce its commitments under 2015 nuclear deal, since US announced its withdrawal and reimposed sanctions against the Islamic regime.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has been defending Iran’s decision to speed up the process of enriching uranium for the past few months.

Earlier Rouhani has also expressed his consensus for restarting nuclear activities in Arak reactor.
