On July 12, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had completed the third round of military strikes against Iranian forces this week. According to CENTCOM, the operation was carried out in response to another attack by Iranian forces on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement, CENTCOM said: "U.S. forces struck approximately 140 Iranian military targets using precision-guided munitions launched from land- and sea-based fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial systems, and U.S. Navy vessels. The targets included Iranian missile and drone positions, naval capabilities, ammunition depots, communications networks, and coastal surveillance facilities."

CENTCOM stated that during three nights of operations this week, U.S. forces, acting on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief, struck more than 300 targets in order to reduce Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Commercial shipping through the strategic international waterway has continued without interruption.

The statement added that:"Since early May, U.S. forces have helped ensure the safe transit of more than 800 commercial vessels and 400 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz."

In the same context, an Axios reporter wrote that the targets included air surveillance radars, missile and drone storage facilities, missile and drone launch sites, maritime surveillance radars, and surface-to-air missile launchers.
