In an exclusive report on Wednesday, two American officials told Reuters that a cyber-attack was carried out by US against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the wake of Tehran’s strikes on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.

Both Washington and Riyadh immediately blamed Tehran for the oil attacks. UK, France and Germany have also accused Iran days after the attacks.

“The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the operation took place in late September and took aim at Tehran’s ability to spread ‘propaganda’…One of the officials said the strike affected physical hardware, but did not provide further details,” Reuters reported.

According to the report, Pentagon refused to comment on the secret cyber-attack.

“As a matter of policy and for operational security, we do not discuss cyberspace operations, intelligence, or planning,” Reuters quoted Elisa Smith, Pentagon’s spokeswoman.

There have been some on-going cyber strikes by Iran and US against each other since tensions raised between the two old foes.
