President Hassan Rouhani called US sanctions against Iranian foreign minister a “childish” move, while Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGCs) have also condemned it and called it “ridiculous, illegal and unwise”

According to a report by Iran’s Fars News Agency, IRGCs published a statement on Thursday, criticizing the US act.

“The Americans are exposing their anger over how widely the message of Islamic Revolution has been spread by Mr. Zarif,” the statement reads.

Iranian President has also criticized Washington during a speech broadcasted live on state television.

“They (US officials) are restoring to childish behavior,” Rouhani said on Thursday.

US imposed sanctions on Iran’s foreign minister, Mohamad Javad Zarif, late Wednesday in an attempt to maximum its pressures on Tehran.

“Zarif implements the reckless agenda of Iran’s Supreme Leader, and is the regime’s primary spokesperson around the world. The United States is sending a clear message to the Iranian regime that its recent behavior is completely unacceptable,” Steven Mnuchin, the US Treasury Secretary, said in a statement.

The sanctions against Zarif freeze any of his assets in the United States or any area controlled by US entities.

Washington is reportedly seeking to limit the diplomat’s international travels.
