A Yemeni military official noted on Sunday that Iran-backed Houthi militant have been hit hard by the economic outcomes of US sanctions against Tehran, Al-Awsat reported.

“Recent developments, mainly sanctions imposed on the Iranian regime, put a heavy strain on the Houthi militants,” Lieutenant General Khaled al-Karni from Yemeni Defense Ministry was quoted as saying.

According to the source Houthis have been weakening on daily bases by the economic and military losses due to Iran’s sufferings of US sanctions.

Tehran is known as number one supporter of the Shiite militias, who have been accused of carrying out the recent attacks against oil tankers, following Iran’s orders.

“Houthi losses are on the rise,” al-Karni noted.

Iran has heavily invested in its proxies in the region; a policy which caused global concerns over Iranian regime and their role in destabilizing the Middle East.
