Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs warned Tehran on Monday, saying that the country will “pay the price” if it continues on its aggressive policies, Reuters reported.

“Today, Iran is under serve economic sanctions. These sanctions will be strengthened. If Iran continues its aggressive policies, it will have to pay the price,” Adel al-Jubeir was quoted by Reuters as talking to Le Monde newspaper.

The Saudi Minister’s response came days after Iran downed an US Navy drone in international airspace.

“We said we wanted to avoid war at all costs, like the Americans. It is the Iranians who are making the choice of escalation,” Jubeir explained.

Tehran has frequently accused Saudi Arabia of escalating tensions in the region.

“You cannot attack ships in the Gulf, you cannot attack pipelines, you cannot provide ballistic missiles to terrorist groups like Houthis to use against Saudi Arabia,” the minister warned.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday to discuss a global coalition against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
