Iranian media reported on Sunday night, the ninth of Farvardin, heavy airstrikes on Tehran and Karaj, along with power outages in parts of these two cities. The Ministry of Energy confirmed the power cuts and later announced that electricity had been restored in some areas.

Starting around 21:00, reports emerged of explosions being heard in various parts of Tehran, after which the Fars News Agency and the Jamaran website reported on their Telegram channels that electricity had been cut in parts of Tehran and Karaj.

Published videos showed blackouts in parts of the two cities. In one video from a gathering of supporters of the Iranian government—published by a media outlet close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps—it is visible that a blackout occurred in Tehran’s Shohada Square.

Iranian media also published a statement from the Ministry of Energy, which said: “Following attacks on electricity infrastructure in Tehran province, parts of Tehran city, and Alborz province, electricity in these areas has been cut.”

Fars News Agency reported that “shrapnel impact and damage to a high-voltage tower in Alborz province, as well as the Do Shan-Tapeh substation,” were the reasons for the power outage in several parts of Tehran and Karaj.

Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, Deputy Minister of Energy, told Tasnim News Agency: “Several transmission substations were hit, and electricity in Tehran and Karaj will be restored within a few hours.”

Later, Tavanir Company announced that electricity had been restored in “large parts of Pirouzi Street, Shohada Square, and Imam Reza Highway in Tehran.”

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted the company as saying that operational teams in the electricity industry are still working to restore power in the remaining affected areas.
