Human rights organizations reported on July 7 that Mahboubeh Shabani, a political prisoner held in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, has been transferred to the prison's quarantine ward, while another political prisoner in Zahedan has reportedly been threatened with a death sentence.
According to the Iran Human Rights Center, Shabani was moved from the prison's so-called "Calm Ward" to quarantine without explanation and was informed that she could face a death sentence.
The report states that Shabani was arrested in Mashhad on February 2, 2026, and, after spending an extended period in solitary confinement, was transferred to the women's ward of Vakilabad Prison.
Human rights sources say she has been charged with offenses including "operational actions aimed at strengthening Israel, the United States, and opposition-affiliated groups" and "enmity against God" (moharebeh) because she allegedly transported injured protesters to hospitals on her personal motorcycle during demonstrations on January 8, 9, and 10, 2026.
At the same time, the Iran Human Rights Center, citing the Haalvsh website, reported that Farhad Baranzehi, a political prisoner held in the political ward of Zahedan Central Prison, has been formally indicted on serious national security charges after more than 480 days in detention.
According to the report, government security forces have threatened the Baloch political prisoner that if he refuses to cooperate, he will be sentenced to death and the sentence will be carried out as quickly as possible.
Haalvsh reported that Baranzehi has been charged with "membership in anti-government groups" and "activities against the Islamic Republic."
Sources familiar with the case said Baranzehi has denied all charges both in court and to his family, maintaining that the case against him was fabricated because he refused to cooperate with security agencies or assist them in gathering information on activists and opponents of the Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile, on July 6, the organization Iran Human Rights expressed concern over the increasing number of executions of political prisoners in recent months and warned of an escalation in the use of the death penalty in Iran.
The organization stated that, following the ceasefire between Iran, the United States, and Israel, the Islamic Republic has accelerated executions, particularly those involving political prisoners and civil activists.
Iran Human Rights also emphasized that a halt to executions in Iran should be one of the primary conditions of any future agreement with the Islamic Republic.
