Gabriel Attal, former Prime Minister of France, who recently announced his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election, stated on Wednesday in an interview with France Inter radio that France should take the lead in forming a coalition of committed countries aimed at overthrowing the Islamic Republic and “liberating the people of Iran.”
The French Member of Parliament described the deaths of 30,000 to 40,000 Iranian citizens during the nationwide protests in January 2026 as “catastrophic,” and emphasized the need to intensify effective sanctions against the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
He also called for the preparation of a precise list of officials and individuals within the structure of the Islamic Republic who were involved in the killing and execution of citizens, in order to enable their future legal prosecution.
Attal further stressed that planning must begin now for the post–Islamic Republic period, in order to prevent potential urban conflict and future crises following the government’s collapse.
