The official news agency of Bahrain reported that a court in the country sentenced nine defendants to life imprisonment and two others to three years in prison. According to the report, the individuals had been accused of cooperating with Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to carry out “hostile and terrorist acts” against Bahrain.
According to a statement released on Sunday, May 24, the defendants were accused of playing roles in gathering information about sensitive locations and facilitating related financial transfers.
Earlier, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior had announced the arrest of 41 individuals allegedly linked to the IRGC.
In a statement published on social media on May 9, the ministry said that these individuals were members of the core structure of “an organization linked to the Revolutionary Guard” and supporters of the doctrine of Velayat-e Faqih (Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist).
