Israeli intelligence officials warned on Thursday, May 21, that the Islamic Republic may be planning a surprise attack using missiles and drones against Gulf countries and Israel.
The possibility of a preemptive action by the Islamic Republic was raised following a security assessment meeting attended by senior military commanders and Israel Katz.
These warnings come as ceasefire negotiations between the United States and the Iranian government continue, while reports suggest disagreements between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu regarding how to proceed on Iran policy.
According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli security officials indicated that the Islamic Republic may attempt to act before the United States and Israel conclude that diplomatic efforts are no longer effective. Officials suggested that Iran could launch a surprise operation similar to the opening stages of “Epic Fury” and “Roaring Lions.”
The Israeli source also reported that the Israeli Air Force and the country's military operations directorate held a series of discussions with their American counterparts to increase preparedness levels. They reportedly exchanged intelligence concerning unusual activities linked to the Islamic Republic.
In addition, Eyal Zamir, Chief of Staff of the Israeli military, held security meetings with military commanders regarding both defensive and offensive aspects of the situation.
Zamir also held discussions with his American counterparts to coordinate a possible response in the event of an attack by the Islamic Republic. Some reports have suggested that current conditions increase the likelihood of a joint military operation by Israel and the United States.
